EPIC Learning Community

A Diverse Learning Community Deeply Rooted in Nature

EPIC Learning Community is a community-created, nature-based K – 5 hybrid online learning program in Victoria, BC.

Welcome.

EPIC Learning Community is a nature-based alternative to the classroom and works in collaboration with a provincial online learning school to offer enriching learning opportunities in nature alongside BC-certified teachers. We are located on south Vancouver Island and gather at the Power to Be site on Prospect Lake, on the traditional land of the Songhees, Esquimalt, Malahat and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples. As a hybrid learning community, we create opportunities for students to be led by a dynamic team of teachers, mentors and practicum students. We are whole child-focused and strongly believe in an approach based on connection to build relationships with children, our community and the land we play on.

Our mission and values seek to put our purpose into practice. As such, they are the principles with which we aim to teach the next generation how to take care of themselves, others and the earth.

Is EPIC like regular school, but in the forest? What do children learn while playing in nature? What is EPIC’s educational philosophy? Here are answers to the many questions you may have.

Our community includes our teachers, mentors, practicum students, directors, parents, learners, and more. Explore the various branches of our community further.

We are more than a program...

Learning at EPIC is deeply rooted in the natural world. Our goal is to build a multi-generational, diverse learning community, consciously creating an opportunity for children and adults to come together to discover, create, play, reflect and learn.

Learning takes place in intimate cohorts (16 – 18 students) on-site three days a week. Families continue their learning at home on other days of the week. Each cohort is guided by 3 – 4 adults who bring their extensive outdoor education training and experience mentoring children to EPIC.
